I agree with what you've written, and don't consider myself anti-environmental. I feel as we're given the earth to live our lives on and make choices as a gift, which we need to treat responsibly.

If you were to give your own kids a gift of a brand new house with nice gardens to enjoy, they should feel free to raid the fridge, cook nice meals, and enjoy life. But then if they proceeded to just dump kitchen garbage out the back door onto the porch, instead of being responsible and dealing with their trash, it would be wrong. You'd be sad. They wouldn't be owning their lives.
